United Way in the Community

At the March 7, 2013, meeting of the Alexandria Rotary Club, Rotarian Mike Johnson introduced guest speaker Carliss Stark. Carliss appeared on behalf of the United Way of Douglas & Pope Counties, and shared the impact of that organization’s work. She noted that the top issue the agency is dealing with currently is hunger. The United Way serves 250-300 families monthly at its food drop and provides bags of food at area schools for youngsters who would otherwise go hungry over the weekends.
